What is the first thing that comes to mind when you look at your skin? Some of the AVILA NATURALLE’S team shared their thoughts on this question and the most popular answer was ‘glowing skin’. One of our central beliefs as a company is that glowing skin is part of all-round wellness. Here’s what we got from the team when we dug deeper:
“I love it, especially when I put effort into taking care of my skin and I see how smooth and good it looks, like a well-fed baby. The most interesting part of my skincare routine is when I exfoliate, it leaves my skin really fresh and soft.”
“As a dark-skinned person, all I have for my skin is admiration. I am proud to say I have smooth skin.”
-Kemi, Marketing and Client Service Executive
“Glamorous is what comes straight to my mind”
-Ololade, Human Resources, and Admin Manager
“I have perfect skin”
-Esther, Quality Control Officer
I see that my skin is good, soft and fine

Society has always tried to dictate what beauty should look like but the real beauty is not about the color of your eyes, the tone of your skin or the texture of your hair; it goes beyond the surface, it comes from within.
Being comfortable in your own skin is such a beautiful trait. Don’t get confused – it’s not the same as being confident. Being confident in your skin doesn’t mean being vain; it means that you know who you are and are not ashamed of how you look. While it is very similar, it’s more about being okay with the way you are and accepting yourself completely.
People talk about their skin with passion because it is a major part of them. Your skin is your body’s largest organ protecting it from foreign substances, regulating body temperature and sensing pressure, pain, temperature, and contact. All these happen regardless of your skin tone because what matters is that your skin is flourishing.
What can you do? How can you be more confident in your own skin? Let’s find out.
1. TAKE ADEQUATE CARE OF YOURSELF; the best way to feel confident in your skin is to fall in love with your body and soul. You will respect and easily like yourself a lot if you spend the time to stay healthy inside out. Eat clean, exercise, meditate and do things that are great for you. Nourish your mind & spirit. Read Smartbooks and self-improvement articles.
2. ACCEPTANCE: Once you look in the mirror, what do you see? List all the qualities that make you who you are to find yourself while not being judgemental. Now ask yourself what you are comfortable with and what you wish to improve, then ask yourself why you wish to improve those things. Is it as a result of a negative remark somebody said that made you feel unworthy? Even if you change that thing, people can perpetually have opinions and you will keep changing till, at some point, you don’t recognize yourself. Always look your best for you alone because it’s pointless making an attempt to look like anyone else. There’s only one you in the entire universe and that’s your superpower. Own it.
In the words of India Arie: I’m not my hair, I’m not this skin, I’m the soul that lives within.
3. GRATITUDE: It’s about finding peace in what you have already got rather than always wondering what you wish you had. Appreciate your skin fully; let it mesmerize you- the lines, pores, scars, and everything. Imagine how your life would be if you couldn’t sweat during a tough workout or feel any sensation when you hugged somebody you really liked. Your skin permits you to travel through life experiencing various things. Once you start to change it, whether, by lightening or darkening, you also alter what it does for you, not knowing the harm until it’s too late.
4. BEAUTY IS BEING COMFORTABLE AND CONFIDENT IN YOUR OWN SKIN.
You can improve your skin color and texture but do not bleach it. Say NO to skin bleaching!!! BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL. Bleaching blocks the production of Melanin in the body, thereby exposing the skin to the harmful effect of ultraviolet radiation. This exposes the skin to cancer.
